Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies are a delicious cookie that your family is sure to love! It is full of oatmeal and chocolate and is so good.
Cookies are one of my favorite things to make. I love to make them and I love to eat them.
I recently wanted to make some cookies to put in the freezer because I know we have a busy couple of weeks coming up. I wanted something different than what I usually make, but I wanted a recipe that I knew would turn out and that we would like.
I decided to make a recipe that came from my older sister. I have made them before, but it has been quite a few years. I had actually forgotten about the recipe, because it was buried in my recipe box. I am so glad that I found it again, because we love these cookies.
My sister has made this recipe for years. She used to make them all the time. I don’t know where she got the recipe, but she labeled it Mrs. Fields Chocolate Chip Cookies.
Well, I think these cookies are very good, but I really don’t think they taste like a Mrs. Field’s cookie. I just call them Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies because that is what they are. However these oatmeal cookies are a little different.
My kids love these oatmeal cookies because they like the texture of them. You grind the oatmeal in the blender to make it fine like flour. This helps you get the flavor and benefit of oatmeal with out the texture of it. It is a great trick and makes these cookies slightly different than your normal oatmeal cookies.
These are a great cookie to make and stock the freezer for school lunches and after school snacks!

Hi Lynn
These look fab and I have a batch in the oven as I type, looking forward to tasting them after dinner. My husband is hard to please when it comes to cookies, he was nervous when I said I was trying out a new recipe as he loves my usual one!
Anyway I wanted to ask if you always put an egg in your cookies? My current recipe adds milk and no eggs. Is ther a reason for using eggs and not milk.
Eggs are so expensive over here (UK) and it would be good to have your advice
Thanks
Only 6 minutes to go 🙂

Lindsay, oh I hope you enjoy the cookies. In the US cookies almost always have eggs in them. The only recipe I have with out eggs has cream in it. I think you may be able to at least cut back on the eggs. Maybe use 1 instead of 2 and use maybe a couple tablespoons of milk or what would = the liquid of an egg. I would give it a try. We thought eggs were expensive here when the went close to $2 a dozen. What do you pay the equal to in the UK? I love to look at and try different recipes. I would love to see a cookie recipe from the UK. Are UK cookies like American one? I would love to see your recipe. If you have a chance maybe you could email it to me @ [email protected]. I really would love to try it. Let me know how you like the cookies you tried today.
Lindsay
Thanks Lynn
I’ll email you the recipe
I loved the cookies, they were even better the next day. My husband is still enjoying them but I may have to win him over a bit more. I may try modifying it a bit more to his taste. The oatmeal adds a great texture though.
As far as egg prices go I pay £2.60 for 12 medium sized free range eggs which at the current exchange rate is about $3.60.
I admit these are free range eggs. I could get them cheaper if I bought caged hen eggs but I try to avoid that. I guess thats a choice I make.
As far as the difference between Uk and US cookies I am not very sure. Despite having travelled to the US I can’t remember eating that many cookies. Our American Pastor loved them when I dropped some round at their house recently so I imagine they aren’t that different.
Hope your office move goes well

Ok..this is a GREAT recipie! Although I altered a bit to add some healthiness..well sorta..LOL
I toasted seasame seeds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds with a tiny bit of olive oil in the oven first then added the toasted nuts & seeds to the recipie ( a 2 small handfuls) along with a small handful or so of dark chocolate carob chips. They cam out not only delishus..but somewhat healthy toooo..my Hubbie Just LUVED them..A must try.
But I will make this recipie as normal too as it is a great recipie .
THANKS
Chris

0ooohhh yummy. Just made these. Split the batter (made with white chocolate chips as that’s all I had) into four. Baked 1/4 as they were, added apricots to the next 1/4, sultanas to the next and added nuts to the last quarter. Very happy family trying all the flavours now. Apricot with white chocolate has been deemed the yummiest flavour.

Do you have to blend the oats or can you put them in as is? Looking forward to trying. Thanks!
Lynn
I am so sorry that it took me so long to get back to you. I took most of the weekend off from online work. For this recipe I have always ground them, but you could probably use them as is. The texture wouldn’t be quite the same if you didn’t grind them. Grinding the oats gives it a smoother cookie than most oatmeal cookie recipes. If you didn’t grind the oats I would probably cut back on the amount you use. I hope that helps.
Brenda Wright
Thank you for replying! I’ll give them a try grounding the oats. I love oatmeal cookies but normally just put in. I may try oat flour in its place.
Appreciate your time!
Lynn
You are welcome! Oat flour would work great. Blending the oats is basically making your own oat flour, so if you have oat flour that would work fine.
