Everyday Adventures {Week 6}

adventures 6-

I shared this picture of my book pile on Instagram earlier this week. I am reading those books, plus about four more on my Kindle. I always have at least four books going and they are usually totally different types of books.

I like variety and like being able to pick up whatever type of book I am in the mood for. Am I the only one that does this?

For those of you interested I also updated my list of books that I have read in 2014 recently. You can definitely tell by it that I like variety. I have not read quite as much as I had hoped this year, but it is a good start.

adventures 5-

I bought a Fitbit last week and so far I love it! I have worn pedometers in the past and love them when I feel like I need to focus more on healthy eating and exercise. I decided though that I wanted to upgrade to something nicer and decided to give the Fitbit a try.

So far I love how it lets you track more than just your basic steps. They makes these in bracelets too, but I was not sure I would like to wear the bracelet all the time and choose the one that fit in my pocket instead. I will give a full review after I use it for awhile. If you have a Fitbit I would love to hear your thoughts. adventures 1

My daughter talked me into getting some flowers for our deck. I love this one!

adventures 2

We have had a few rough years weather wise in Oklahoma. Between several years of extremely dry weather, a few ice and snow storms, and a late freeze this year, I did not know if our fruit trees and berries would survive. We did loose a few, but most of them survived. And from the looks of our apple tree above, it looks like it will be a good apple year.

adventures 3-

We finally put in an irrigation system of sorts in our garden. It is a temporary movable type one, but so far I think it will work well. In fact, it works so well that I really can’t believe we did not do this before now.

adventures 4-

My zucchinis plants are doing well, but zucchini always seems to do well. In a few weeks I will probably be giving zucchini away to everyone I see.

That is a look into my week. I hope you all have a great Memorial Day weekend and are able to enjoy some time with family and friends!

I love your Kindle cover. It’s so red! I need a new cover. Maybe I need a red one, too! 🙂

Our garden this year is okra only. We wanted to do squash and cucumbers and tomatoes, too, but it didn’t work out. Maybe next year.

My husband had not convinced me to grow okra yet. He loves it, but I it is not my favorite. One of these years we will have to try growing it though.

I love okra however I can get it, but I know a lot of people find it slimy or hairy or just plain weird. When you finally decide to give it a go, a fantastic way to cook okra is to slice it i and mix with equal amounts of potatoes and squash cut into similar sized pieces. Zucchini will work, but I prefer yellow. Dredge all the veggies in seasoned cornmeal and fry in a few tablespoons of oil. I like to use a cast iron skillet.

Hi, Lynn. I’d sure like to know what brand or type of irrigation system you’re using. We really need one here in dry central Texas!

We got the parts at Lowes and basically designed our own. Or I should say my husband designed it, but we decided what we wanted/needed and he got all the different parts and put it together. It is not pretty, but so far it is working well.

Is that a red or orange kindle cover? I have the orange for the paperwhite and I LOVE it!

My husband got me a fitbit for Christmas in 2012 and I love it! It is a great way to keep track of how active you are. I have the same model you have. I’ve added friends and the competitive side of me loves looking to see how I’m doing compared to my fitbit friends. This has gotten me to not skip my run on more than one occasion! I’ve used it to track my sleep, too, and it has gotten me to pay more attention and try to get more sleep. I’m a data junky and I love that I can go online or to my app on my iphone and see all of my stats. I also have mine linked to MyFitnessPal account so it keeps track of all my steps. I just need to enter a start time when I log my runs/walks. It does a pretty good job of keeping track of stairs. Sometimes I have more stairs than I’ve done, just by running uphill, walking fast, but for the most part it is pretty accurate. It doesn’t usually miss them, but it may add a few extra. I’m looking forward to hearing what you think of it after you’ve used it more!

It is an orangish red color. Definitely more red than orange though.

So far I am loving the fitbit, but I agree the flights of stairs really varies when you run uphill etc. But that is not that big of deal to me. I think I am really going to like it. And I will be sure to do a full review on it soon.

I love my fitbit as well! Like Barb, I have also linked it to myfitnesspal, and I find it really motivates me to make sure I get my 10000 steps each day.
