firepit

My in laws redid some of their flowers beds a few months ago and gave us some of the rocks they were no longer using. At first I was not sure what we would use them for, but after thinking about it I decided a fire pit by our pond might be a good use for them.

I also decided that it would be a good summer project for my son. With some help from his sister, he finally finished it last week. It turned out great and we can’t wait for some cooler weather so we can start using it.

catfish

And while we were looking at the finished fire pit the other day I saw a catfish and had to take a picture of it. Our pond is well stocked with fish so we often see them, but I have never been able to get a picture of one. Fishing is not my thing, but I think I might have to spend some time at the pond during the evening to see if I can get some more pictures of them.

taco shells

This is what might end up in your cart at Sam’s Club if you take your kids with you. Please tell me my kids are not the only ones that talk me into random unplanned purchases like this?

We have not tried them yet, but I am thinking they might be good in my oven tacos. At least I hope they are good because we now have a giant Sam’s Club size box of them. 🙂

cookbooks

I spent some time this week planning out the next few months of my Cooking Through My Collection series. This series has really been fun because I am discovering cookbooks I forgot about or have not used in a long time. Look for some great new recipes coming soon in that series.

books

I mentioned a couple months ago that I was trying to finish up the book Quiet and was planning on starting the Bonhoeffer book. Well as you can see both are still sitting in my pile of books. The problem is I have a book problem. I guess that is a good problem to have, but it is still a problem. I find so many books to read and then I start one and read it half way and then I find another one to read and start working on it and then I find another one. You get the idea.

And it is not that I don’t like the books that I have started, it is just that I keep finding more and more books that I want to read and can’t wait to start.

I think I currently have 8 books that I have started and not finished…………

The Bonhoeffer book is one I really want to start, but I am making myself finish some of my other books first. It is a long book and I know that it will take me forever to get through it if I add it to the 8 I already have started. So far it is working and I have finished a few books and have yet to start it.

I updated my Books Read in 2014 list if you are interested in the ones I recently finished.

Now to keep working on finishing a few more without starting any new ones…. Please tell me I am not the only one with this problem? Does anyone else have too many books going on at the same time?

Lately I have 2 books going but find it happens only when I have a non fiction book in my current reading stack. I can’t seem to do two novels at a time but my daughter can! How do you like Quiet -is it a worthwhile read? I may need to put a library hold on that one.

So far I am enjoying Quiet, but it is taking me forever to get through it. It has not been a fast read for me. I read a section, think about it, read a little more, think about it, etc. It has been one of those books that I read a little then don’t pick up again for awhile. If you are an introvert, or have kids or family members that are I think it is a helpful book to understanding them.

Oh and we have those nacho shells in our cabinet but haven’t tried them yet and our box is much smaller! My kids love to find treats or odd stuff to put in the cart and try. Guess that is what summer is for!

I have the same horrible habit!! And like you, it’s not that I don’t like what I’m reading but my husband will get a new book and then say he enjoyed it and I just have to start reading it! And he oftentimes recommends books at church (he’s a pastor) and then I want to start that book as well.
I’m making myself finish reading Alistair Begg’s Pathway to Freedom (which is great!) BEFORE I start reading A Hole in Our Holiness. I’m determined to be a finisher of books even if it kills me. lol
It’s so fun to read your posts. I feel like we are sisters–well, we are…sisters in Christ!

I am glad I am not the only one! I will have to look at those books you mentioned. Of course after I finish the ones I am already reading. 🙂

There’s no way I’d be able to read eight books at once, lol. The most I read at a time is two, one “real” book and one kindle book. There are times when I’ll start a kindle book and won’t finish it if I can’t get into it (they’re usually free ones). Normally I need to finish reading a book before I can start another one.
