Peanut butter, chocolate, and peanut butter cookies are combined into this delicious Peanut Butter Chocolate Mud Pie.
This is one of my husband’s all time favorite desserts. He loves it for his birthday. However, I made it last week for his birthday for the first time since 2009. Yes, 2009.
I made it for his birthday back in February 2009. In early 2010, our oldest daughter developed a peanut nut, tree nut allergy.
For years, we kept our house nut-free in order to keep her safe. Therefore, I have not made this pie in years.
My daughter no longer lives at home, so we no longer share a kitchen. We are still careful with nuts and peanut butter because she does come over a few times a month. However, I do cook some with peanut butter again.
That means I could once again make my husband his favorite birthday dessert!
I have been making this pie for over twenty years. The recipe originally came from a Debbie Fields cookbook from the early 1990’s.
I have tweaked the recipe a little over the years, but it is the same basic recipe.
Part of what makes Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie recipe so good is the crust. It is made out of peanut butter cookies.
I always make my own because I never buy store-bought peanut butter cookies. A friend of mine has made it with store-bought peanut butter cookies. She said it works, but homemade ones are better.
You could use just a graham cracker crust, but as I said, I think the peanut butter cookies are what makes it so good.
Well, the filling is also over-the-top delicious. The cookies, the peanut butter, the chocolate, plus the cream and cream cheese, make for a rich and delicious combination.
This chocolate peanut butter mud pie is not a healthy recipe. I think that is obvious, but it is a great pie to make for a special treat.
This pie takes a while to chill so plan. The recipe has several steps.
Can I make it gluten free?
Yes, this works great gluten free. I use gluten free peanut cookies to make the crust gluten free. As long as you read labels on the rest of the ingredients it is a delicious gluten free dessert.
