Do you have some old baking powder in your cupboard? Do you know how to test if baking powder is still good? It is so easy!
I recently found an old can of baking powder in the back of my cupboard. I almost threw it out, but then I remembered that there is an easy way to tell if your baking powder is still good.
Testing your baking powder is an easy way to avoid waste.
You don’t want to throw out something that is still good and you don’t want to use baking powder that is bad in a recipe and waste the other ingredients.
Baking powder leavens things. It reacts with other ingredients to make a recipe, like muffins, cakes, and biscuits, rise.
By testing baking powder to make sure that it is still good you are making sure that it is still active.
All you need to test baking powder is hot water.
Sprinkle a little bit of baking powder, about 1/4 teaspoon, into a cup of hot water. If it bubbles and fizzes the baking powder is fine to use.
You want quite a bit of bubbling and fizzling. If there are no bubbles, or not very many bubbles, it is time to get some new baking powder.
That is all you need to do to test to see if your baking powder is still good!
Have you every tried this?

Almond and coconut flour can go bad. Usually they smell off/different when they are no longer good. I do not think there is a way to test them to see if they are bad though.
