It is time for another Everyday Adventures where I share a little bit of my everyday life.
Our Thanksgiving dinner was not at all traditional, but we ended up with a meal the whole family loved.
That custard was one of the things that I made and it was the best custard that I have ever made.
I feel like custard is a forgotten about dessert. It is simple and old fashioned, but oh so good.
I will be sharing the recipe soon!
2020 has turned me into a plant lady. Or made me plant crazy or something like that.
Years ago, before I had kids, I had quite a few houseplants that I loved. Then I had little kids and little kids and houseplants are not a great mix.
As my kids grew life got busy. Every time I would have houseplants I would forget to take care of them and they would die.
Several years ago my mindset about plants changed. I am not sure where I heard it, but I heard someone say that you need to compare houseplants to cut flowers.
A bouquet of flowers can range in price, but no matter the price they only last for a short time. A house plant can also range in price, but even an inexpensive houseplant will last longer than cut flowers.
I could totally relate to this type of thinking.
Even if I kill a houseplant it was worth getting because I still get three to six months of enjoyment out of it. Or however long it takes me to kill it. 🙂
Over the last several years I have slowly bought a few houseplants. Then 2020 happened and I felt a strong need to cozy up my house.
My houseplant collection has now exploded to about fifteen plants and my kids have banned me from buying anymore until at least a few of the ones that I have die.
Has anyone else gone plant crazy in 2020?
I bought myself an early birthday present. Or at least that it what I am telling myself it is. I am also calling it my 2020 made me do it purchase.
I also added five new cookbooks to my collection over the last few months. I am shared all about them and talked about my extensive cookbook collection over on From Our Bookshelf.
If you love cookbooks or have someone on your gift list that loves them you will probably enjoy reading what I did and didn’t like about the ones I bought. I feel like I am in the minority with my thoughts on the Ina Garten one. You can read my thoughts here.
I have decided that December is going to be all about cookies. Not everyday or every recipe, but I will be sharing lots of cookie recipes this month.
They are easy to make and freeze well. They are also an easy holiday food gift to give away to family, friends, and neighbors.
The holidays are going to look a lot different this year, but we can still make cookies to share with others. Stay tuned for cookie recipes starting next week.
I also have a fun cooking challenge planned for 2021. It involves my cookbook collection and I can’t wait to share more soon. I think it is something that my regular readers and my gluten free readers will enjoy!
I took this picture of my daughter and one of our dogs the other day. I thought it was such a peaceful picture. In the middle of all the storms, we can still find peace.
There is a lot I could say about 2020, but I won’t. What I will say is that I hope I am learning the lessons that I am meant to learn.
I don’t want to remember 2020 for only the bad that has happened. I want to remember it as a time my family and I grew stronger.
Did it teach me things? Did it bring me closer to God and to others? Or did it do the opposite?
We all want 2020 to end, but the reality is that 2021 might not be a lot better. I know that is not what anyone wants to hear, but the reality is struggles of life do not end because of a calendar date.
Are current times changing us and shaping us into something better? Or are we growing bitter?
I can’t the change current times, but I can change my attitude towards them.
Just a few random thoughts as we head into the last month of 2020.
