If you love bananas, this recipe for Ina Garten Banana Cake is a must make!

This recipe for Ina Garten’s Banana Cake is the recipe that helped inspired my Cooking with Ina series.
Shortly after I read Ina Garten’s memoir Be Ready When Luck Happens, my sister told me how much her family loved the banana cake recipe from Ina Garten.
After hearing her rave about it, I knew I had to try it. I also knew that I had to try it gluten free.
Today, I am sharing both versions. I am sharing Ina Garten’s Banana Cake recipe and how I made it into a gluten-free banana cake.
This banana cake was so good! I have made it multiple times over the last few months, and we loved it.
It is moist and delicious! It has the perfect amount of banana flavor.
And the frosting! I love a good cream cheese frosting, and Ina Garten’s cream cheese frosting recipe is a good one.
What I Changed
For this recipe, I did not change a lot.
The original recipe called for orange zest. I did not have any orange zest or oranges for orange zest when I made it. It worked fine without it. I am sure it would add a lot of flavor, but I have just left it out.
I have made this with and without walnuts. It is good both ways. The original recipe called for you to put walnut halves on top of the frosting for a decorative touch, but I have not done that.
The original recipe called for making this in an 8×2 round cake pan. I have made it that way, but it also works in an 8×8 square cake pan or doubled and made in a 9×13 pan. If you do that, you just have to add a few minutes to the cooking time.
The day I took the above picture, I doubled it and made it in a 9×13 pan. You make it in a 9×13 pan; you can add 1 1/2 of the frosting instead of doubling the frosting.

This recipe is easy to make gluten free. The gluten free version is so good. This is a dessert that you could serve anyone and they would not know that it was gluten free.
To make this gluten free all you have to do is use Bob’s Red Mill 1 to1 Gluten Free Flour blend. Other gluten free blends may work, but I only tested it with Bob’s Red Mill 1 to 1 blend.
