This Candy Bar Fudge is one of the easiest recipes that I have made in a long time. It would make a perfect quick and easy candy to make for Valentine’s Day. Even kids could make this very easily.
This is one of those recipes though that I almost did not post. This recipe contains canned frosting, and I am not a fan of canned frosting, but in this recipe it works so well and tastes great.
Don’t get me wrong, I love frosting. I just like homemade frosting. Homemade chocolate frosting and homemade cream cheese frosting are so easy, and so much better than what I can buy in a can at the store. Homemade frosting tastes better and does not contain all the extra ingredients that store bought frosting contains.
I can’t remember the last time I bought a can of frosting, but it has been years. Several months ago though, when I came back from visiting General Mills, I received a box of General Mills products as a thank you. In the box was a can of frosting.
This can of frosting has sat in my pantry for months because I was not sure what to do with it and I did not want to just throw it out.
I was recently looking through some old Taste Of Home cookbooks and magazines and found a recipe for Candy Bar Fudge that contained a can of store bought frosting. At first I thought, why would anyone make fudge with a can of frosting, but then I remembered the frosting sitting in my pantry. I thought it might be a good way to use up that can of frosting.
I did have to adapt the recipe to make it nut and peanut free for my daughter. I ended up using M&M’s, but you could easily add almost any candy or candy bar to this. I think peanuts and marshmallows would be good mixed in. That would make it a rocky road type fudge.
I will say that I was very surprised at how good this fudge was, especially with how easy it was to make.
Has anyone else made fudge with canned frosting?
Easy Candy Bar Fudge
Fudge made easy using just a few basic ingredients.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon butter
- 2 cups chocolate chips
- 1 can (16 ounce) chocolate frosting
- 1/2 or 3/4 cup of M&M's or other candy (If you use another type of candy, you will want to chop it into pieces)
Instructions
- Line a 8x8 or similar size pan with foil. Grease the foil and set aside.
- Melt chocolate chips and butter. (I did this in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until melted)
- Stir in frosting until well combined. Stir in candy and mix well.
- Spread in prepared pan and refrigerate for 1-2 hrs.
- Cut into squares and serve. This would also look cute cut using heart shaped or other shaped cookie cutters.

What a simple and easy idea! It would be a great recipe for kids wanting to make a treat themselves.

Wow! I would never have thought to make fudge from frosting! I’m so excited because for Valentine’s Day I wanted to make one type of cake (I chose red velvet cupcakes with oreos mixed in – mmm! with crm cheese icing) and one kind of candy. I’m so busy this week so I needed an easy idea and this is it! Thanks for ending up posting this recipe!
Lynn
@Jennifer, I hope you enjoy it. One of the things I loved about it was how easy it was!

I have made fudge with frosting just not this way I will have to try it – I did a can of white frosting and a jar of peanut butter you warm the frosting for about 30 sec in microwave then stir in Peanut Butter – I also add about a tablespoon of powered sugar. One day my daughter came home from school and said mom I need fudge for class tomorrow – I thought what am I going to do on short notice did this and the class thought I did something really great they ask for it all the time sometimes I use chocolate frosting to change it up.

@Amy, and Lynn,
I was just going to ask about using white frosting! I have white frosting in my cupboard that has been there for awhile and need to use it up. Thanks for both recipes! Putting M&Ms in with the peanut butter fudge will be great too, yummy!

I am just wondering why you chose M&M’s if you wanted it to be nut free. They are made in a factory with nuts and most people who are allergic to nuts cannot eat M&M’s. Maybe I missed something and M&M’s are safe. Wouldn’t that be wonderful!
Lynn
@Kim, I am aware of the warning on the M&M package, my daughter is very sensitive so we do not keep any nuts or peanuts in the house of any sort. Therefore I always have to adapt recipes that contain nuts for her. Even if she does not eat it, I have to adapt it do be nut/peanut free. We do however have some items in the house like the plain M&M’s. My daughter has never had a reaction from us having M&M’s in the house or from others in the family eating items like M&M’s. Others may not be comfortable with having the plain M&M’s in their house and kitchen, which I understand.
