I cook a lot of pork roast, which tends to happen when you raise hogs.
This recipe has become one of my favorite ways to cook pork roast. It is moist, tender, and full of flavor.
This recipe for pork roast uses the crock pot, which I love this because the crockpot does all the work for you. You can start it in the morning and have dinner waiting for you at 6:00.
This roast was inspired by a recipe of Emerils that I saw. I say inspired, because as usual I did change the recipe quite a bit.
The main difference between my version and Emeril’s is that Emeril cooked his roast in the oven and I chose to use the crockpot. I also increased the orange juice and left out the cilantro. Cilantro would be great in this, I just did not have any on hand, so I left it out.
This pork is so moist from cooking in the crockpot all day and the orange juice gives it a very nice citrus flavor that we really enjoy.
I like to serve this with potatoes and vegetables, but you could easily serve this with rice or even as a sandwich filling.

That sounds sooo delicious. I’ll be trying that after my next trip to the butcher’s. Thanks.

What happens if you don’t brown the meat first? What about using apple cidar vinegar? I make crock pot pulled pork all the time. This recipe sounds so good! Thanks!! P.s. Love your blog!! I have made several of your recipes. It has really helped me…I get stuck on the sam old thing sometimes.

@Erin key, I like to brown the meat first because I think it helps the flavor. I am guessing other vinegars would work fine. The vinegar helps tenderize that meat, and the white wine vinegar doesn’t overpower the other flavors. I am guessing apple cidar vinegar might be a bit strong and compete with the orange flavor, so a different vinegar might work better.

Thanks for the photo! I love making pork roast in my crock pot (we have an amazing recipe on my blog) but it never slices like it does if it’s done in the oven and I always think it’s me! This one sounds great; I can’t wait to try it.

I’ve been looking for more meals to toss in the crock pot. This looks like it would be delicious!

Was it juicy or dry? I seem to have issues with pork roast being dry in the crockpot!
Lynn
@Martha Artyomenko, I did not find this dry at all. This fell apart the meat was so tender when I took it out of the crockpot. There was also plenty of juices to serve with it. Different cuts of pork will be more juicy and tender than others. So that might make a difference for you. I hope that helps.

Have you ever made pork chops in the crockpot? This recipe made me think if I could use this ingredients with the pork chops I have in my freezer. xD
do you think it would work?
Lynn
@Sara, I think this would work fine with pork chops.
