Homemade chocolate pudding and homemade peanut butter pudding are combined into this delicious Chocolate Peanut Butter Pudding Dessert.
Peanut butter and chocolate are a classic dessert combination. They pair so well together.
For this recipe, I am combining peanut butter and chocolate with homemade pudding and turning it into a delicious dessert.
It is no secret that I love homemade pudding. I love it when a reader skips the box of pudding and makes one of my homemade recipes.
I have been making homemade pudding for years, and my mom made homemade pudding when I was a kid. We rarely ate boxed pudding, which is why my love of homemade pudding runs deep.
One of the things that I love about homemade pudding is that it is normal food that is gluten free.
It is also a fun dessert to serve company.
For this chocolate peanut butter pudding dessert I simply layered my homemade chocolate pudding and my homemade peanut butter pudding recipe.
Both recipes are delicious on their own, but they are even more special when layered together.
Add chocolate chips and whipped cream and it is even better.

- 2 1/2 cups milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup chocolate chips
Peanut Butter Pudding
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups milk
- 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional ingredients for serving
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- whipped cream
Instructions
For Chocolate Pudding
- In a saucepan, stir together sugar, cocoa, cornstarch and salt.
- Stir in milk and cook over medium heat.
- Bring to a boil and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens.
- Remove from heat, and stir in butter, chocolate chips, and vanilla.
- Stir until the chocolate chips have melted.
- To keep a skin/film from forming on the top of the pudding as it cools, place a piece of plastic wrap over the pudding and you want to press it right against the pudding.
- Set aside while making the peanut butter pudding.
Peanut Butter Pudding
- Combine first three ingredients in a med saucepan. Gradually whisk in the milk.
- Bring to a boil over med heat, whisking constantly.
- Boil about 1 minute or until it starts to thicken. At this point the pudding will still be slightly thin.
- Turn heat off and add peanut butter and vanilla.
- Stir until well combined. The pudding should now be thick.
- Pour into a bowl. Cover with plastic wrap directly over the warm pudding; this will help prevent skin from forming on the pudding
Layering Pudding
- After both puddings have cooled, layer in a trifle bowl, glass bowl, or small glass dishes.
- You can sprinkle chocolate chips between layers and on top if desired.
- You can also spread whipped cream between layers or on the pudding.
- Refrigerate until serving.

Sometimes the simple desserts are the best. I never would have thought to pair those 2 together. Yum!

Would the PB pudding recipe work with reduced fat PB?
Lynn
@prayerbear, I have not used reduced fat peanut butter before so I am not sure. But I think it would be worth trying to see. I am guessing it would work ok.

This is a great idea! Necessity is the mother of great inventions!
