Cream cheese frosting is easy to make and makes even a simple cake taste special!
This is my favorite frosting recipe. I use it for all kinds of cakes and cupcakes. It is a no fail, easy recipe. It works for really nice fancy cakes, but it also makes a simple box cake seem special.
I use this on carrot or spice cakes. I use it on my banana bars. It works well for chocolate cake and also cupcakes. You really can’t go wrong with this frosting.
I can’t remember the last time I bought a can of frosting at the store. This recipe is so good and easy. I would much rather make it at home. If you have never made homemade frosting give this a try. You won’t go back to the stuff in a can.
My chocolate version works great for chocolate or yellow cakes. It is also really good.

How long can you make this ahead of time?
Dana
Made this frosting for my daughter’s birthday cake. It was so good! It was a super hit. I will be making theis again, and again. So glad I found this website.
Lynn
Thanks! I am glad you are enjoying my site and recipes. Thanks for reading!

Hello Lynn, I was wondering if I should use unsalted butter, last time I used salted and it was still really good.
Lynn
Unsalted is probably better, but I use whatever I have and both work fine in this. I hope that helps.

I am so wanting to make this frosting. How far can I make this advance? Does this freeze well or would you recommend making this the day before use?
Lynn
I have never frozen it off the cake. I have frozen a cake that has been frosted, but not just the frosting. I think you could make this ahead of time as long as you let it come to room temperature and mixed it well before using it. I hope that helps.

I am needing to frost a jelly roll pan size cake. Will this make enough to frost that size
Lynn
Yes I have used it for that size of pan and it works fine.
