Banana bread in general is not hard to make. I have a regular banana bread recipe and a gluten-free banana bread recipe that I have been making for years. But sometimes you just need quick and easy.
Today’s recipe for four-ingredient chocolate banana bread is just that. It is so easy to make and tastes great.
This recipe is based on an old Betty Crocker recipe for banana bread that uses a cake mix. And actually, I am not 100% sure where this recipe came from, but I think it is Betty Crocker. It is one of those recipes that I think has been around so long that no one really knows where it started.
Most of the recipes that I have seen for this bread use a basic white or yellow cake mix. That works fine, but since my family loves chocolate, I prefer to change it up and use a chocolate cake mix instead.
The other thing I like to do is to stir in a few chocolate chips. Now, this changes it from a four-ingredient recipe to a five-ingredient recipe, but either way it is still a very quick and easy way to make banana bread to make.
Four Ingredient Chocolate Banana Bread
All you need is four simple ingredients to make this four-ingredient chocolate banana bread.
Ingredients
- 1 chocolate cake mix (King Arthur Gluten Free Cake Mix works also)
- 1/3 cup oil
- 3 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups mashed bananas
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Grease two loaf pans and set them aside.
- In a mixing bowl combine all ingredients.
- Mix until well combined.
- Divide batter between pans.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes.
Notes
For a gluten-free version, you can use King Arthur's gluten-free cake mix.

I wanted to try this recipe as we like both chocolate and bananas. I used half of the cake mix as we just wanted to see if we liked it. It smelled good baking. But when we tasted it, it tasted more like a chocolate cake and not so much a banana taste like we thought. I think next time will just add chocolate to banana bread recipe.
