Occasionally I crave an item that I can no longer have. You know the kind of craving that you just can’t get out of your mind. You want it so bad, but you can’t have it. And even though you know you can’t have it, you can’t stop thinking about it. In fact, knowing that you can’t have it almost makes you want it more.
I am guessing that I am not the only one that has this happen. Please tell me I am not……
One of the items that I have craved a few times since going gluten free is fig newtons. Another one is red licorice. Thankfully I have found a good gluten free red licorice. Until recently though I had not found a good replacement for fig newtons.
Let me start by saying that I know fig newtons are a bit of a strange cookie to crave, but they have always been one of my favorite cookies. I loved them as a kid. As a teenager I would buy a package and keep it in my car to eat cookies on the drive home from work. I loved them. I loved the fig filled ones and I loved the fruit filled one. So yes I missed them when I had to go gluten free.
A few months ago I discovered that Pamelas came out with a new gluten free fig cookie. At first I was excited, but the more I thought about it the more I was hesitant to try them because I was not sure if they would be the same. My curiosity finally got the best of me and I gave them a try.
I was not disappointed. They were so good!
Really I could not believe how close these were to the real thing. And best of all is that they are gluten free. These are fig newtons that I can have.
Now I will say they are not exactly the same, close, but not 100% the same. I think the texture of the Pamela’s Figgies and Jammies is a little softer. Not in a bad way, just different. Overall though these are very close to the real thing and they satisfy my craving for something I have missed since going gluten free.
I give these gluten free fig newtons 5 out of 5 stars.
The rest of my family has no interest in rating them because they don’t like fig newtons. Not a one of them does. I could not even get most of my family to try these. The one that did try them, said yes they taste like the real ones and I don’t like the real ones. So, if you like the real ones I think you will love these gluten free ones. If you don’t like the real fig newtons, you can skip these.
Has anyone else tried these? What do you think?
Disclaimer: I was not paid to share about this product. I am sharing these cookies because I truly love and buy them. I bought three packages of these recently in different flavors because I love them so much. And I will admit to buying them, but I will not admit to how many I have already eaten out of those packages because it is way too many. 🙂

I am laughing at your post because I am the only one in my family that has any kind of relationship with figs/fig cookies, the whole thing! Jovial makes a little round fig cookie that is good, but it does not quite hit the “fig newton” spot. I shared your reluctance to be disappointed by Pamela’s try, and so have not. But I will! Once I drop a few pounds…

I am glad I am not the only one that misses fig newtons! And the problem is when no one else in the family likes them we end up eating the whole package. I think they will definitely be a treat for me and I will only buy them occasionally.

Yes Lynn, I really like the Figgies, tho I do wish the fig part was firmer.
I do NOT like the mixed ones. The strawberry/fig is far too sweet and all
strawberry taste. I enjoy your helpful GF posts. Thanks, Y

I am glad you enjoy these posts. I hope readers find them helpful. And I do like the figgies best. The strawberry was good, but the figgies were my favorite.
