I spent last week visiting my family in Oregon. I had a great time visiting everyone. This week though it is back to reality and catching up on everything, so if I am a little quiet here that is why.
I did enjoy a trip to Bob’s Red Mill while in Oregon. My sister and I were able to go on a behind the scenes tour of the mill one afternoon. It was very interesting to learn about all they do. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes that I never knew about. My sister and I felt like we were in an episode of the show Unwrapped.
We had a great time and learned so much about how Bob’s Red Mill works hard to keep their gluten free products safe. I plan to post some pictures of the tour soon. It really was interesting to learn about a company that cares so much about their product.
This is also the first time my family has traveled to Oregon since we went gluten and nut free. I was a little worried about traveling and visiting so many people while dealing with our food issues. But the trip went really well and we did not have any reactions while we were gone. I hope to post a few tips soon for traveling with food allergies soon.
While I was gone I recieved several emails and comments about my Mexican Quinoa. Several of you mentioned that I missed the step about rinsing the quinoa and you are right, I did forget that step in the directions. I have updated the post, so thank you for catching my mistake on that.

I’m so glad to hear the traveling went well {from an allergy standpoint too}, Lynn!

Hi Lynn,
The Portland, Oregon area is a wonderful place to find gluten-free restaurants. I have been going there to see a doctor @ OHSU, and we have to stay overnight. We usually try different places to eat. If you should go there again, let me know and I can recommend different places for you to eat. I live near Klamath Falls, and we don’t have any gluten-free restaurants. Bob’s Red Mill is a great place. I like to browse when we go there.

I was amazed at the food and allergy friendly food available at restaurants and grocery stores in the Portland area. There is so much more available there then I have here in Oklahoma. And I will be going back since all my family lives there. I grew up west of Portland and love the area.
